Join us for an intimate evening celebrating Third Coast Percussion's landmark twentieth anniversary, with guest of honor, genre-bending choreographer Twyla Tharp. The Benefit features a conversation with Ms. Tharp about her creative legacy and her current collaboration with Third Coast, and an exclusive preview performance by TCP of the music they've created for this one-of-a-kind partnership: a special arrangement of Philip Glass's "Aguas da Amazonia", played on custom percussion instruments. Dancer, choreographer, and author Twyla Tharp is one of the defining artistic voices of our time. She is the recipient of one Tony Award, two Emmy Awards, nineteen honorary doctorates, the Vietnam Veterans of America President's Award, the 2004 National Medal of the Arts, the 2008 Jerome Robbins Prize, and a 2008 Kennedy Center Honor, and a MacArthur Fellowship, and the founder of Twyla Tharp Dance. Her work has expanded the boundaries of ballet and modern dance by combining different forms of movement from jazz, boxing, and inventions of her own, into choreography of creativity, precision, and streetwise nonchalance.
